1.Research.

You have just gotten a call from an employer interested in interviewing you. You are so excited. You express this excitement by researching the company and developing any questions you may have. This will show the employer that you are interested in the company and eager to learn. Prior knowledge about the company will assert your confidence and prevent you from being blindsided by any questions you may not have known the answer to.

2. Figure Out Your Strengths.

Once you have figured out the job description and what it entails, figure out why you would be the right fit for this position. This may seem much harder than it really is, but it is really just matching a few personal qualities you have with some that the position may require. For instance, if you are applying for a retail position, relate characteristics such as “outgoing, competitive” with tasks that you will most likely be asked to perform on the job you are applying for. If you have prior experience in a field in which you are applying, mention similar personality traits and similar tasks that your previous experience and this potential position share and demonstrate to your employer that because you are already experienced, hiring you will be a smooth transition.

3. Knowing How to Answer Questions.

Keep in mind, the interview process is a professional setting and your attitude and demeanor are being assessed. This means you should display a positive attitude throughout the entire process. This is your first impression, so make it a good one. For instance, if someone asks, “How you are doing today?” responding “Great!” instead of “Good” or “Okay” will demonstrate that you have a positive and outgoing personality. These small gestures require minimal effort and sharpen your appearance.

4. Be Open-Minded.

Having a picky approach on your job search journey will inevitably hold you back. Having an eagerness to learn means being open-minded about new opportunities available. It is also one of the most positive character traits you can carry, especially to an employer. If you are narrowing your job search to only certain fields, you may find yourself believing that there are no jobs available as you have limited the jobs available for which you can apply. When really, there are endless opportunities in this growing and developing world and you just need to be able and willing to take them.

5. Stay Confident.
